Unibet Poker dictionary
Poker is a whole other world. So it comes with a whole other
language. Find out why it's good to have 'the nuts' on 'the
river' here.
Add-on
Some tournaments allow players to buy additional chips at
certain points, called an add-on. This is different from a rebuy,
because usually everyone still in the tournament is able to
add-on. Add-ons usually mark the end of the rebuy period.
All-In
When a player puts all of their chips into a pot, they're
all-in. An all-in player is can only win as much as he put in
from any other player. If other players continue to bet above
the all-in amount, they create a side pot amongst themselves.
Ante
A small forced bet that everyone at the table is required to
pay before each hand. In games with an ante, these bets
constitute the initial pot.
Bankroll
The total amount of money a player is willing (and able) to put
at risk.
Bad Beat
The situation in which a very strong hand is beaten by an
even stronger hand.
Bad Beat Jackpot
Unibet takes some of the sting out of a bad beat by offering
various jackpots. You can find out what qualifies as a bad beat
jackpot in different games here.
Bet
To bet is to put money into the pot, with the high hope of
winning that pot.
Big Bet Poker
Pot-limit and no-limit poker are sometimes referred to as Big
Bet Poker. The "Big" in a sense refers to the size of bets
relative to the pot, irrespective of the amount of money
involved. However, at Unibet poker we also call our big
$100/$200 games "Big Bet Poker".

Bring-in
To bring in the betting is to make the first bet on the first
round of a hand (not including blinds bets and antes).
Big blind
A set amount placed by the player sitting in the second position
to the left of the dealer before any cards are dealt. Players
joining a game in progress must post a big blind, but may do so
from any position.
Call
To call is to match the current highest bet on the table. If
someone bets $10 and someone else raises $10, it will cost you
$20 to call. Calling is the cheapest way to remain in a hand.
Check
If there has been no betting before you, you may check. It means
you're still interested in playing, but don't want to put any
money in the pot just yet. If a player after you makes a bet or
raises, you'll have to call (match that bet) to keep playing the
hand.
Check-Raise
To check on your turn, then, when a player after you bets, to
raise that bet. An aggressive move usually made by a player with
a strong hand.
Community card(s)
Cards dealt face up in the centre of the table that are shared
by all the players in a hand. Flop games like Texax Hold `Em or
Omaha have five community cards.
Deal
To give out the cards for a hand. The person who does this is
called the dealer. To be dealt in is to be given cards during a
hand. To be dealt out or dealt around is not to be given cards.
Deck
A set of playing cards. In most games, the deck consists of 52
cards.
Discard
In a draw game, the card(s) a player throws away and replaces
with new card(s) from the deck.

of your cards, to be replaced from the deck.

An incomplete, but potentially strong hand. This usually refers
to a hand where you have 4 out of 5 cards to make a straight
(straight draw) or a flush (flush draw).
Fixed limit
In limit poker, any betting structure in which the amount of the
bet on each particular round is pre-set.
Flop
A number of games, such as Hold 'Em and Omaha, are played with
five community cards. The first three of these cards are dealt
all at once, which is called the flop. Games with a flop are
sometimes called flop games.
Flush
A poker hand of five cards in the same suit.
Fold
To abandon your hand, usually because someone else has made a
larger bet than you are willing to call.

4-4-K-K-K. In a tie, the highest 3 of a kind wins.
Heads-up

heads-up tables.
Kicker
In draw poker, a side card (one of a different rank) held, when
drawing, with a pair or three of a kind, to disguise the hand or
to try to improve the hand. In Hold 'Em, the unpaired card that
goes with a player's pair or three of a kind. Often, the rank of
the kicker determines the winner of the pot.
Main pot
When a player goes all-in in a table stakes game, that player is
only eligible to win the main pot - the pot consisting of those
bets they were able to match. Additional bets, placed in a side
pot, are contested among the remaining players.
